A JANESBRORO man’s revelry turned into a very expensive night out after he was arrested while necking a bottle of wine.
Christopher Hayes (41), of Marian Place, Janesboro, pleaded guilty before Limerick District Court to the offence after a judge heard Garda evidence that he was “highly intoxicated” on Cecil Street on November 2 last.
Gardaà arrested Mr Hayes for his own safety after they found him drinking straight from a bottle of wine on the public street, Judge Patricia Harney was told.
Inspector Sean Murray told the court that this was not Mr Hayes’ first offence.
The judge was told that the accused has 29 previous convictions, including 15 for public order offences, one for theft, criminal damage, four for breaching a court order, and others for being intoxicated in a public place.
Judge Harney convicted Mr Ryan and gave him a choice of paying a fine of €100 or spending a day in jail.
