SINN Féin TD Maurice Quinlivan claims the government opted to scrap energy credits despite their own data showing that consumer energy bills would hit record high levels.
Deputy Quinlivan made his comments during a Dáil debate on energy credits.
“A freedom of information request by my colleague, Lynn Boylan MEP, has revealed that households will be paying an additional €321 this winter because of the government decision to scrap energy credits.
Their own data revealed what households would be paying and yet they opted not to keep energy credits.
Over the last number of months Bord Gáis Energy, Flogas, SSE Airtricity, Pinergy and Energia have all increased their consumer prices adding hundreds of euros onto the annual energy bill of consumers,” he said.
