As the Christmas season draws near, the incredible generosity of Limerick residents has shone brightly, exceeding all expectations in this year’s Angel Tree Appeal at The Old Quarter, in aid of Adapt House. On December 15th, the team at The Old Quarter Pub & Townhouse completed their initial presentation of collected gifts to date for the children and families supported by the local refuge.

The appeal, which has been running for the past few weeks, saw festive shoppers and community members taking part in a heartwarming effort to bring a little joy to children facing difficult circumstances this Christmas. The Angel Tree, beautifully decorated with tags representing individual children in need, stood as a symbol of the kindness and compassion that Limerick is known for.

Simone from Adapt House was on hand to accept the generous donations, which included a range of toys, clothes, and treats. Speaking on the occasion, Catherine, manager at The Old Quarter and the heart behind the initiative, expressed her overwhelming gratitude. “The level of kindness shown by Limerick people has blown all of our expectations out of the water. I honestly never expected we’d receive this many gifts in our first year running the appeal” she said, beaming with pride as the donations were loaded into a van bound for the families at Adapt House.

Adapt House, which provides refuge and services for women and children escaping domestic abuse, has been a beacon of hope for many in the community. The Angel Tree Appeal was designed to bring a little light and comfort to those who need it most, and judging by the outpouring of support, this year’s initiative has certainly achieved that goal.

“We’ve been absolutely blown away by how the people of Limerick have come together to make sure that these children don’t go without a gift this Christmas,” Catherine continued. “Every single donation, no matter how big or small, means so much. It’s been a true demonstration of the Limerick spirit, that we hope to continue for a very long time.”

The appeal was launched in mid-November with the hope of bringing a little magic to the lives of children who might otherwise miss out on the festive joy that so many of us take for granted. By taking a tag from the Angel Tree, participants had the chance to directly impact a child’s Christmas, and the response has been nothing short of heartwarming.

For the team at The Old Quarter, the success of the appeal isn’t just about the gifts, it’s about creating a sense of community and reminding everyone that small acts of kindness can make a world of difference.

As the final gifts are being delivered to Adapt House, there’s no doubt that the first Annual Angel Tree Appeal has touched the hearts of many in Limerick, and for Catherine, it’s a reminder of just how much good can come from coming together in the spirit of generosity. And if you haven’t had a chance to drop off your gift yet, don’t worry, donations are still being accepted at The Old Quarter Bar, and the team welcomes anyone who would still like to be part of this heartwarming initiative.
