CHRISTMAS came early for a number of Limerick community groups, as Mayor John Moran gifted almost €40,000 to make the festive season all the more special across the county.

Mayor Moran announced the beneficiaries of an initiative to promote Christmas gatherings within the community. Funding of €20,000 had initially been made available for groups to apply for, in order to supplement the cost of festive activities and ensure a more vibrant and inclusive Christmas experience across Limerick.

However, given the interest the initiative, the Mayor doubled the initial allocation to €40,000.

The successful applicants included Cappamore Development Association Community Council, J&D Consultancy, Athlunkard Boat Club, Askeaton Ballysteen Community Council, Garryowen Residents Association, Gabriel Barbosa de Silva, and Kilmallock Town Centre First Committee.

The Mayor thanked everyone who took “the opportunity to create moments of joy and belonging in their locality this Christmas”.

“I am hoping to be able to see in person your streets and squares sparkle and look forward to sharing in the warmth that will be created.”
