LIMERICK Celtics run-up against Ballincollig in the semi-final of the Domino’s National Cup semi-final at Neptune Stadium, Cork on Friday week (January 2, 8.15pm).
Celtics won the Presidents’ Cup last season and their Cup success has continued into their debut season in the Super League.
The local side eliminated defending champions UCC Demons in the opening round, before getting past St Vincent’s in the quarter-finals.
In the quarter, the trio of AJ Williams, Abdul Wurie, and Finn Hughes all scored over 20 points for Celtics.
In the season high (112-89) semi, Williams managed to drop 34 points in almost as many minutes, while there was also a 25-point, 11-rebound performance from Hughes.
Celtics Head coach Tony Hehir is relishing the prospect of a semi-final outing.
“Limerick Celtics’ first ever appearance in the National Cup semi-final is absolutely huge for the club and for the basketball community in Limerick. Our opening Super League game against Ballincollig back in early October was a cracker of a game and hopefully we shall see another great semi-final in Neptune Stadium,” he said.
“Ballincollig have improved greatly in recent weeks, but our quarter-final performance against St Vincent’s on Saturday night will give us great confidence going forward.”
The other semi, at the same venue on January 3, is between UCD Marian and Tralee Warriors.
Also over the first weekend of 2026, Limerick Sport Eagles meet Templeogue in the Men’s Division 1 Cup semi-final, while Limerick Sport Huskies bump into Moy Tolka Rovers in the last four of the Women’s Division 1 Cup.
“Promotion in the league would obviously be our target for this season but winning the cup would be very, very special,” commented Eagles captain Ronan Cregan.
