LIMERICK Council is planning a major update for the King’s Island Youth and Community Centre, including a community café, sports hall, and a new games area attached to the current playground on St Ita’s Street.
The plans were revealed in a planning notice on the Council’s website, along with a call for public observations on the proposed project.
According to the Council notice, the proposed Part 8 development would take place on public lands to the south and north of the existing community centre building.
The Council planning notice says that works would involve the extension and renovation of the existing single-story King’s Island Youth and Community Centre, to include a new first floor level and roof.
The extended 911-square-metre floor area, on the ground floor, would include a new community café and servery area (food counter), a multi-purpose sports hall, office and meeting/training room, along with toilet, circulation, storage, and plant spaces.
Public realm works at Verdant Place, the planning notice explains, will include soft and hard landscaped areas, including four car parking spaces and a loading bay.
A new multi-use games area is also planned to the north of the community centre, adjoining the existing playground on St Ita’s Street.
Details of the proposed development are available at County Hall in Dooradoyle.
Submissions and observations on the plans can be made before February 9, 2026, to [email protected], online at planning.localgov.ie, or in writing to the Planning and Place-making Department, Limerick City and County Council Offices, Dooradoyle, Limerick, V94 WV78.
