GARDAĆ are investigating a spate of car thefts across Limerick.
According to GardaĆ, aĀ 2006 registered BMW X5 taken from a driveway in Adare on December 14 has since been recovered, but GardaĆ are still investigating.
On the same day, between midnight and 11am, a woman in her 30s discovered that her 2012 red Volkswagen Polo, which had been parked outside overnight, was missing.
Sergeant Michelle OāHalloran, Crime Prevention Officer, said: “On checking inside her home, she realised that the car keys had also been taken. This vehicle has not been recovered.”
“On the same night, another woman in her 30s in the Murroe area reported that her 2015 silver Volkswagen Passat was stolen from outside her home at approximately half six in the morning.”
Sergeant O’Halloran said “itās believed that the suspects entered the house via an unlocked door, took the keys, and then took the vehicle.”
“No other property was taken, and the vehicle has since been recovered”.
Sergeant O’Halloran said she wanted to “remind people to check all doors and windows, including front, back, patio, and double doors. The most basic principle of security is controlling access to your home.”
“Make sure your doors and windows are of good quality and lock securely. If locks are faulty, repair or replace them as soon as possible, or consider adding extra locks or bolts.
“Donāt give criminals the opportunity ā ensure your home and vehicle are secure, keep valuables out of sight, and avoid keeping large amounts of cash or jewellery at home.
“At night, turn on lights, use timer switches, and always remember to āLock Up and Light Up.ā
Anyone with information on any of the thefts is asked to contact their local Garda station or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
