Two arrested following massive cocaine, cannabis, and tablet seizure in County Limerick

TWO people were arrested following the seizure of more than €300,000 worth of suspected cocaine, cannabis, and tablets at homes in Limerick and Cork.

The drugs haul was recovered during a search of a house at Main Street in Bruree, County Limerick, and during a follow up search at a home in Charleville, County Cork.

Gardaí, led by the Limerick Divisional Drugs Unit at Henry Street, raided the residence around 9pm on Friday (January 2).

A Garda spokesperson said two people were arrested and over €310,600 worth of illegal drugs was seized “as part of ongoing investigations into the sale and supply of drugs in the region”.

“During the course of the search of a residence in Bruree, County Limerick, cannabis (€198,000), cocaine (€10,500), Xanax tablets (€79,252), and amphetamines (€4,350) were seized.”

The Garda spokesperson added that “at a follow up search of a residence in Charleville, County Cork, cocaine (€17,500), cannabis (€1000), weighing scales and drugs paraphernalia were seized”.

A woman (38) and a man (45) were being questioned by investigating Gardaí under Section 2 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

It brings the total drugs seized in Limerick in the past week to almost €1million.

On December 30, the Divisional Drugs Unit seized an estimated €540,000 worth of cannabis herb at a house at Carrigkerry, near Newcastle West, County Limerick.

No arrests were made following the December 30 seizure.

All drugs seized by Gardaí were to be sent to Forensic Science Ireland, the State’s science laboratory service, for analysis.
