A LIMERICK-based design studio won a national award at the prestigious Fit Out Awards for its Ómra Nest project.

Serpentine Interiors was crowned with the Fit Out Project of the Year – Residential under 500k award, which honours outstanding achievements in the design execution of fit out projects in Ireland since 2012.

Co-founded by Tracey Collins and Helena Grimes, the studio on Lower Mallow Street brings a wealth of multidisciplinary expertise, with a combined 20 years of experience in the interiors industry.

The Ómra Nest project came about when a family tasked the pair with creating a new chapter for the home of 22 years.

“We introduced a walk-in pantry, a utility room and generous gathering spaces where the children could play in peace (while staying within sight of the grown-ups). We added extra design details such as playful botanical wallpaper, a curved chimney breast and calming colours inspired by the seasons”, the co-founders shared.

The duo restructured the layout by knocking through smaller rooms to create an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area and created larger windows to bring more light in.

The new plan allowed the kitchen to become the heart of the home, anchored by a bespoke island that supports social interaction.

Throughout the design, the duo explained, a variety of materials, colours and textures were introduced including rich navy tones with earthy rust colours, layered with natural textures and crisp finishes.

The Ómra Nest project now houses a family suitable for all stages of life.
