THE number of handgun licenses in Limerick has increased over the past three years.
That’s according to figures provided to Limerick TD Conor Sheehan from Minister of State at the Justice Department and fellow Limerick TD Niall Collins. Minister Collins told Deputy Sheehan that there were 55 handgun licenses issued in Limerick in 2025.
That compared to 36 in 2024 and 38 in 2023.
In 2020 just 28 licenses were issued, with 21 issued in 2021 and 52 in 2022.
Firearms certifications and authorisations are the responsibility of An Garda SÃochána under the Firearms Act 2000.
