A BABY girl and her grandparents had a lucky escape this Friday morning (January 9) after a family home was destroyed in a fire in County Limerick.
The two adults, believed to be in their 70s, managed to escape from the blaze with their four-month-old granddaughter.
The blaze took hold in the property, located in the Ballysimon area, around 11.30am this Friday morning.
Sources said the baby girl was rescued due to the quick thinking actions of her grandparents.
“It was a great rescue, fair play to them. It was close call,” said a reliable source.
It’s understood the fire broke out due to a fault involving an electric heater.
The girl and her grandparents were treated at the scene by paramedics and then taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick where they were being treated for smoke inhalation.
The house was completely destroyed in the fire.
Firefighters attached to Limerick City and County Fire and Rescue Service responded to the scene and put out the flames.
Firefighters remained at the home, dampening the scene to ensure the fire was completely quenched.
