THE NUMBER of people who faced the courts in Limerick throughout 2025 for drug-driving has more than doubled on figures from 2024.

Drug-driving prosecutions for the year were up by 111 per cent in Limerick, from 44 in the whole of 2024 to 97 up to October of 2025.

Drug-driving prosecutions in district courts across Ireland have surged, with 2,050 people before the courts up to October 2025 alone for drug driving offences, according to figures supplied to Ireland South MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchú by the Irish courts service.

According to Ms Ní Mhurchú, speaking after reviewing the figure, the trend reflects a steady rise on drug-driving charges since 2020.

The Ireland South MEP opined that sharp escalation in charges and court appearances for the year is particularly alarming.
