LIMERICK Council was urged to provide a schedule of bring bank and clothes bins collection days across the city.

This, according to Labour Party councillor Pádraigh Reale, allows people to schedule their trips on days that bins are emptied and “will further allow this Council to alternate collections between various locations”.

“We’ve done a bit of canvassing all around the Corbally area recently and we got feedback for some of the residents, particularly close to the park canal, on the level of dumping.”

He now want to see the Council run a public information initiative around the 18 bring bank and textile bins in the city so people know when they have been emptied. This, he maintains, may alleviate illegal dumping at these sites.

“It’s simple ask for this local authority to provide more information on when they’re collected, then our public can recycle their bottles and their textiles more efficiently,” Cllr Reale added.

Social Democrats councillor Shane Hickey-O’Mara seconded the motion, suggesting a map be published showing the locations of all the city bring banks.

Director of the Metropolitan District, Kieran Lehane, said he was happy to endorse the proposal because so many people use the bring banks.

“I do see stuff being left there, unfortunately, from time to time. But we’re trying to address that through CCTV,” Mr Lehane concluded.
