THE reopening of the Chinese market for Irish beef is a huge positive for the Irish agri-food sector.

That’s according to Limerick TD and Minister of State Niall Collins. Sales of Irish beef, previous to the reopening, were previously suspended in 2024.

The suspension  lift comes following a state visit to China by Taoiseach Micheál Martin earlier this month.

Minister Collins was positive about the implications of future trade, noting that “in 2023 Ireland exported 2,625 tonnes of beef valued at €20.24million to China”.

“In 2024 our total volume of agri-food exports to China were valued at over €614million, with dairy exports amounting to €359million, pigmeat exports amounting to €103million and fish exports coming to €40million.”
