Investigation launched into workplace death of man in Limerick

THE Health and Safety Authority (HSA) said it was investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in his 90s in a workplace accident in west County Limerick.

The man is understood to have died in a farm-related incident.

“Gardaí and emergency services responded to a fatal workplace accident at a premises near Askeaton, County Limerick at approximately 6pm on Monday, 19th January 2026,” said a Garda spokesman.

“A male in his 90s was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Gardaí said the body was removed from the scene and taken to University Hospital Limerick for a post-mortem examination.

Investigators do no suspect foul play.

Gardaí said the office of the Limerick Coroner was notified to arrange for an inquest hearing.

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) was also notified by Gardaí as per routine protocol.

A HSA spokesman said: “The HSA is aware of the fatal incident and has launched an investigation. As such, no further information is available at this time.”
