LIMERICK Council has reminded farmers of key regulations as the closed period for organic fertilisers drew to an end on January 15.
The Council reminded famers that the buffer zones for slurry and soiled water of five metres from open drains or streams extends to 10 metres for two weeks following January 15, and that the umbilical system must not be used to spread slurry or soiled water on saturated soils or when conditions pose risk to water quality.
The use of low emission slurry spreading is now compulsory on farms stocked at 100kgN/ha or above.
The Council said that any complained it is notified of “will be investigated”.
