
A MAN has been arrested following a late-night assault in Limerick City on Monday night (January 19) in which a woman in her 40s was injured.
Gardaí confirmed the arrest this Tuesday morning, explaining that both Garda officers and members of the emergency services attended the scene at a home in the Garryowen area.
Gardaí said that a woman in her 40s was assaulted during the frightening incident, and received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
A Garda spokeswoman added that a man in his 30s was arrested following the assault, and brought to a Garda station in Limerick City.
The spokeswoman said that the man is “currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984”.
She added that “investigations are ongoing” into the assault.
Local sources said that the incident took place between 11pm and 1am on Monday night, and reported the man to be “on the property screaming” for a number of hours. It is understood the woman was at home alone at the time of the terrifying attack.
