Golden era for Limerick basketball

LIMERICK – courtesy of Celtics, Huskies, and Eagles – won a stunning three National Cups at the National Basketball Arena.

In the U18 Women’s final, Jordan Hehir-coached Celtics edged past Brunell (Cork), 51-49. Here International Laura Buckley delivered a Most Valuable Player (MVP) display.

Celtics: Anna Nealon, Meabh Purtill (4), Caoimhe Sweeney, Jade You, Laura Gocek (3), Eabha Hayes, Laura Buckley (23), Robyn Walsh, Holly Meagher, Madelyn Hartigan (6), Emer Purtill (15), Megan Hehir.

Huskies, under Patrick O’Regan, beat Cleveland Rockets (Antrim) in the final, 73-65, to capture the Women’s Division 1 National Cup, with MVP Clara Gomez grabbing a double-double of 25 points and 18 rebounds, while there was a 23-point game from Shelby Harmeyer.

Huskies: Orlaith Woods (8), Fiona O’Connell, Tori Spencer, Hannah Cremin (9), Cathy Grant (2), Simone O’Shea (2), Emilie Hamel, Clara Gomez Santa (25), Sophie Moore (4), Shelby Harmeyer (23).

In the Men’s Division 1 Cup decider, Niall McDermott’s Eagles accounted for Drogheda Wolves (Louth), 83-67.

The stand-out performer was Ryan Leonard.
