First lecture of Limerick Historical Society of 2026 gets underway

THE first lecture of the year from the Limerick Historical Society will take place this Friday (January 23), focusing on the Arthur family of Arthur’s Quay and their houses.

The lecture will take place at 8pm at the Redemptorist Hall in Limerick City.

Arthur’s Quay is named after the Arthur family, who first came to Ireland in the 12th century.

By the 13th century, the Arthur family had settled in Limerick City and they became a prosperous merchant family, with family members becoming mayors of the city.
