FINE Gael councillor Olivia O’Sullivan wants a Metropolitan District sub-committee to be formed under the new Local Community Safety Partnerships (LCSPs).
This, Cllr O’Sullivan says, would facilitate structured regular discussion on city policing matters.
The LCSP is a new national model established under the Policing, Security, and Community Safety Act 2024. The regulations establishing LCSPs came into operation in June 2025, with partnerships automatically created in every local authority area.
Bringing together residents, community groups, local authorities, An Garda SÃochána, the HSE, Tusla, and other public services, their purpose is to develop a community safety plan that reflects local needs, builds trust, and ensures coordinated action. Limerick’s LCSP will consist of up to 30 positions.

- External Walls: Up to €8,000 Grant
- Attic: Up to €1,500 Grant
- Cavity Walls: Up to €1,700 Grant
- Internal Dry Lining: Up to €4,500 Grant
In response to Cllr O’Sullivan’s proposal, the Council explained that LCSPs are under the national Community Safety Partnership framework which sets out a partnership’s statutory structure, membership, and governance. Councillors were also reminded that there are just seven mandated positions for elected members of Limerick City and County Council on the Limerick Partnership.
“The creation of sub-committees is a matter of business for the full partnership to decide when it is established. All operational and strategic matters relating to policing and community safety are addressed through the LCSP as a whole,” the Council stated.
Expressions of interest are being sought by the Council from community representatives who wish to play a role in the safety of their community. Membership of the LCSP is now open and can be lodged on mypoint.limerick.ie before January 30 at 4pm.
