
MARY Immaculate (Mary I) College breezed past UCD, 3-22 to 0-13, in a home quarter-final of the prized Fitzgibbon Cup Colleges’ Hurling Championship midweek.
Central to the victory were the scoring contributions of Limerick pair OisÃn O’Farrell (Askeaton-Ballysteen-Kilcornan, 2-3) and Shane O’Brien (Kilmallock, 0-8), along with Kilkenny’s Shane Walsh (1-5).
Jamie Wall, aged just 33, is in year ten of his management of Mary I, with whom the Corkman has enjoyed outright victory on two occasions.
Elsewhere, holders University of Limerick (UL) came through, 0-20 to 0-12, against UCC at Maguire’s Field.

Tipperary’s Darragh McCarthy topped the scoring with nine points, while there were contributions too from the likes of Adam English (Doon), Fintan Fitzgerald (Mungret St. Paul’s), Joe Fitzgerald (Monaleen) and Aidan O’Connor, Ballybrown.
Ballybrown’s Colin Coughlan is captain of UL, whose manager is Brian Ryan (South Liberties).
In the other quarters, University of Galway beat SETU Waterford and DCU accounted for MTU Cork.
