WELL-KNOWN ‘Slimmer’ Denise has established a Slimming World group in Newcastle West.
Last year, through her weekly column in The Clare Echo, Denise shared her Slimming World journey honestly — the highs, the challenges and the lessons learned — along with the life-changing impact it had on her health, confidence and mindset.
What began as a personal decision to take back control of her health quickly became something far bigger. Week by week, Denise says she discovered that Slimming World isn’t just about weight loss; it’s about freedom from guilt, learning how to enjoy food again, and building habits that last a lifetime.
“When I first joined Slimming World, I weighed 14 stone 3 lbs and wore a size 18. Like many people, I had tried countless diets before, always starting with good intentions but never finding something I could sustain long term. From the very beginning, Slimming World felt different.
“Through food optimising, I learned that no foods are banned, that family meals don’t have to change completely, and that lasting weight loss comes from understanding food rather than fearing it. I learned how to fuel my body properly while still enjoying the meals I love. Small, realistic changes added up — week by week.”
Today, Denise weighs 11 stone — a weight she has successfully maintained — and she now wear a size 10. But the biggest transformation wasn’t what happened on the scales. It was the confidence, energy and belief in herself that returned along the way.
“One of the most powerful parts of my journey was the weekly group support. Walking into a room full of people who genuinely understand the struggles, setbacks and victories makes all the difference. That sense of encouragement, accountability and community is something you simply can’t replicate on your own.
“That’s why I’m delighted to announce that I will be running two Slimming World groups at the Desmond Complex, Newcastle West (Eircode: V42 WT20), starting Wednesday, 28th January.”
Sessions take place from 5.30pm to 7pm at the Desmond Complex in Newcastle West. All are welcome. More information and bookings on [email protected] or 085 855 9760.
