FIANNA Fáil councillor Michael Collins has asked Limerick Council if it will open the access at Bridge Street in Newcastle West leading to the River Arra.

Cllr Collins said it is important that the necessary safety measures are made along the riverbank.

In response, senior executive engineer at Newcastle West Municipal District, Ben Noonan, explained that access has been closed for 15 years as the access points and pathways do not meet any standards in terms of safety and accessibility.

“If this access is to be opened, then a detailed report and costing will have to be prepared to determine if the proposal is feasible,” he added.
