OVER 20,000 people have applied to become a volunteer during the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in County Limerick.
Applications opened today (Thursday February 5) with more than 24,000 people already registering their interest to be part of the sporting event.
There will be two types of volunteer roles available, with the traditional on-course marshal role joined by a new ‘ambassador’ role that will support the overall fan experience and the smooth running of the event.
Marshals will assist in the day-to-day operations across the golf course, to ensure smooth operation of play. This would include providing guidance and support in key areas such as grandstands, individual holes of play, accessibility areas, and managing on-course transport requirements.
This role, according to organisers, would suit confident communicators who enjoy working as part of a team and have a good understanding of golf to help deliver a world-class experience.
Ambassador roles will help deliver high-quality Irish hospitality to thousands of fans visiting from across the globe. They will be stationed at transport hubs across the county as well as entrances to the golf course and key on-site locations, such as the Fan Village, to guide visitors and answer any questions they might have. No golf knowledge or experience is needed, just enthusiasm and a collaborative mindset, organisers said.
There are approximately 2,000 roles available and those interested can apply for the voluntary roles via the Ryder Cup website until April 1.
Those who registered their interest will be contacted directly via email by Ryder Cup Europe to complete the application form.
Applicants will be notified if their application has been successful in August 2026. Further details on their specific role at the event will then follow in November 2026.
Kit Gartrell, Ryder Cup event delivery director at the European Tour Group, said: “The 2027 Ryder Cup will be the biggest sporting event that Ireland has ever staged and the world will be watching. Â Our volunteers will have the opportunity to be at the heart of this iconic event and be part of history. We have already had more than 24,000 expressions of interest in these roles on our website, which shows the passion for the event.”
“For our ambassador role, we want to encourage applications from a diverse pool of people to showcase the country’s famously warm and welcoming hospitality to the thousands of visitors from across the globe who will visit the region”, Ms Gartrell added.
“Applications are also live for the hugely important marshal role. The country has a strong track record of hosting major international golf tournaments, with a strong network of Marshals already in existence as a result. We want to tap into this expertise, and identify new talent, to make sure the 2027 Ryder Cup delivers a best-in-class experience for players and fans.”
The 2027 Ryder Cup will be the iconic event’s 100th anniversary match and will take place at Adare Manor in County Limerick from September 13-19, 2027. It will be the second time that Ireland has hosted the event, following the K Club in Kildare in 2006.
