Quinn stars for Young Munster

ON release from Munster due to a break in URC competition, Ruadhán Quinn marked a return to club duty with a stunning quartet of tries as Young Munster swept past UCD, 82-21 in Division 1A of the All-Ireland League at Tom Clifford Park.

In all, Munsters scored an astonishing 12 tries, the others coming from Jake O’Riordan (2), Shay McCarthy (2), Andrew Smith, Shane O’Leary, Luke McCready and Liam McMahon.

O’Leary converted all but one of those efforts.

Young Munster are now within the play-off positions.

In 1B, Garryowen had an impressive 48-29 home win over City of Armagh.

Seán Sexton scored three tries for the Light Blues, while the others were through Max Clein (2), Tom Ironside-Wickham, Luca Cleary and Fionn Rowsome.

Lachlan Stewart kicked four conversions.

Elsewhere, Shannon kept their play-off hopes alive in 2A, with a 30-10 home victory against Greystones.

Darren Gavin, Jordan Prenderville and Callum Black scored tries for Shannon.

Jamie Gavin converted all three tries and also added three penalties.

In 2B, Old Crescent defeated Banbridge and UL Bohemians lost at Galwegians.

In 2C, Thomond were beaten by Clonmel and Bruff – courtesy of a last gasp penalty from Paul Collins – defeated Malahide.

In the Women’s All-Ireland League, UL Bohemian maintained their unbeaten run, with a 34-7 away win against Galwegians.

Lucia Linn scored two of Bohs’ six tries, with captain Chloe Pearse, Stephanie Nunan, Gráinne Burke and Clodagh O’Halloran getting one each.

Éabha Nic Dhonnacha kicked two conversions.
