Pioneering psychedelic rockers return to Limerick venue with anniversary tour
Mercury Rev will perform at Dolans Warehouse on Friday July 17, celebrating the 25th anniversary of their critically acclaimed album ‘All Is Dream’, presented by Seoda Shows.
The Buffalo, New York band, formed in 1989, has spent more than three decades exploring the outer reaches of psychedelic rock, earning praise from The Guardian as “a rarity in indie rock: a band who have continually evolved their sound”. Their experimental approach has incorporated elements of jazz, funk, doo-wop, techno and folk, creating what Rolling Stone described as “majestic chaos”.
Mercury Rev’s 1998 breakthrough ‘Deserter’s Songs’ earned NME’s Album of the Year and featured on Pitchfork’s 100 Favourite Records of the 1990s. However, the Austin Chronicle declared that with 2001’s ‘All Is Dream’, “Mercury Rev has not only matched the Herculean effort of ‘Deserter’s Songs’, they’ve surpassed it.”
The album received widespread critical acclaim upon release, landing in Q magazine’s best 50 albums of 2001, Uncut’s Top 10 and Mojo’s Top 15 that year. The BBC has lauded the band’s “shimmering psychedelic pop, immersive indie-rock, [and] spectacularly engrossing passages of sumptuous instrumentation”.
From their 1991 debut ‘Yerself Is Steam’, which appeared on Pitchfork’s Best Shoegaze Albums of All Time, to collaborations with legendary musical luminaries and performances at major festivals worldwide, Mercury Rev has maintained its position as one of America’s most pioneering groups, bridging mainstream appeal with progressive experimentation.
