PLANNING permission has been granted in Limerick City to develop land as a base for river patrol group Limerick Suicide Watch (LSW).
Preliminary permission, subject to eight conditions, was granted earlier this week to deliver a custom designed base in the former building of auto parts shop, Motor Factors, on the corner of Naughton’s Place and Henry Street.
Permission was sought to change the use of the building to accommodate the LSW group who patrol the bridges and riversides of the city providing support for those in distress.
Works include minor elevational alterations, a car port, provision of car parking, vehicular access to the proposed car park, boundary treatments, and all ancillary site works and services.
Yvonne Cook, LSW chairperson, said the group is delighted with the decision “in order to deliver the badly needed forever home for Limerick Suicide Watch”.
“It will be a custom designed base to support the dynamic needs of the group for now and into the future. This is a remarkable step forward for the group and is only possible with the amazing support of the people of Limerick and the business community whose generosity and kindness never fails to impress us.”
“What better way to celebrate Limerick Suicide Watch’s 10 year anniversary in 2026,” Ms Cook added.
She also paid thanks to local councillors, in particular Fine Gael’s Dan McSweeney, and the JP McManus Pro Am 2022 fund.
LSW patrol the city’s bridges and riversides helping those in distress. Visit limericksuicidewatch.ie for support or more information on the group.
