A man appeared before court today (Monday February 16) in connection with a seizure of €100,000 worth of cannabis by a Limerick Garda drugs unit in the city centre over the weekend.

Robert Kelly (56), of Pinewood Avenue, Caherdavin, Limerick, appeared before Limerick District Court charged with one count of possession of €100,000 worth of cannabis for sale or supply, and with simple possession of cannabis.

Mr Kelly is accused of having the drugs at his home when Gardaí searched it under warrant this past Saturday (February 14t).

Garda Daniel Dillon, of the Limerick Divisional Drugs Unit, based at Henry Street Garda Station, provided Limerick District Court with evidence of arresting and charging and cautioning Mr Kelly.

Court presenter Garda Inspector Liam Wallace, of Roxboro Road Garda Station, told the court that Gardaí had no objection to bail with certain conditions attached.

Mr Kelly, represented by solicitor Sarah Ryan, signed a bail bond agreeing to abide by bail conditions set down by the court.

The bail conditions include that Mr Kelly reside at his home address only; that he not apply for a passport; that he sign on three times a week at a Garda station; and that he be available to Gardaí on a charged and in-credit mobile telephone.

Judge Patricia Harney granted bail with conditions and remanded Mr Kelly on bail to appear before Limerick District Court for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions on September 18.
