
OVER €130m in funding has been allocated for Limerick roads, delivering a major investment in road safety, maintenance, and infrastructure.
The funding forms part of a €1.5billion nationwide roads package aimed at strengthening Ireland’s national, regional, and local road network.
Out of this, €133m has been allocated to Limerick Council to support pavement renewal and resurfacing, road safety upgrades, maintenance of bridges and structures, climate resilience works and protection, and regeneration of key national routes.
Among the national roads in the region set for upgrades are the M7, Junction 29, N20, Rourke’s Cross, N21, Abbeyfeale, R515, N21, Devon Cross, R515, N24, Grange Cross, R515, N24, Pallasgreen, M7, Junction 28, N20, Rourke’s Cross, N24, Beary’s Cross, N24, Oola, Pavement, N69, Kilteery Pier, N69, N69, Boland’s Cross, N69, Mungret, and Boland’s Pavement, N21 – 69 Foynes to Limerick, including the Adare bypass, M20 Limerick to Cork, N21 Abbeyfeale Relief Road and N21 Newcastle West Relief Road.
Limerick TD and Cabinet Minister Patrick O’Donovan said the investment is “a major boost for Limerick and will directly improve safety and reliability on our national roads”.
“Our road network is critical to Limerick’s economy — supporting local businesses, connecting families to work and education, and ensuring safe journeys across the county.”
Nationally, the wider €718mm allocation will see thousands of kilometers maintained and improved, alongside targeted safety and climate adaptation measures.
From the overall national allocation, €800m is being invested in national roads, €659m in Exchequer capital funding via Transport Infrastructure Ireland, and €104m for national roads under Public Private Partnerships.
