GARDAƍ are investigating after two men were observed causally examining what appeared to be a gun with a mounted telescopic sight in broad daylight in Kilmallock, County Limerick.

Video footage of the men and the sniper-like firearm at Sarsfield Street, Kilmallock, last Saturday (February 14), was shared across social media.

As men and women around the country were getting some last minute cards, chocolates, and dinner reservations for Valentine’s Day, the two men in the footage appeared to be fawning over the gun or imitation gun.

GardaĆ said they were investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Sources said GardaĆ were investigating whether the men were involved in nefarious activities or hunting in the rural community.

Another theory being examined was that the firearm was an imitation.

At one stage in the video footage, a passerby near the two men glances over in their direction as they appear to be examining the gun.

A Garda spokesman said: ā€œGardaĆ received a report of an incident where a male was alleged to be in possession of a firearm in Kilmallock, County Limerick on Saturday 14thĀ February 2026.ā€

ā€œEnquiries are ongoing,ā€ they added.

There were no reported incidents involving a firearm in the area following the incident.
