A LOCAL man was fined €150 for possession of an illegal drug, which was seized during a Garda raid in County Limerick.

The court heard that the Garda raid took place earlier this month at the home of the accused, during which an amount of illegal cannabis was found.

46-year-old Kevin O’Keeffe, with an address at Scanlon Park, Castleconnell, County Limerick, pleaded guilty before the District Court, sitting in the Mulgrave Street court complex in Limerick City, to possession of cannabis on February 10, 2026.

On the night of February 10, the court heard, “there was a significant amount of houses raided”, according to Mr O’Keeffe’s solicitor, who told the judge that his client was “caught with a minimum amount of drugs”.

The court heard Mr O’Keeffe had no previous adult convictions, was residing in stable accommodation, and was previously working, having obtained a health and safety qualification.

While Mr O’Keeffe pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis, his solicitor told Limerick District Court that he “vehemently denies any involvement in the sale and supply of drugs”.

Mr O’Keeffe was not charged with sale or supply of drugs.

Judge Patricia Harney, hearing the case, remarked that this was not her “first rodeo”, telling the accused’s solicitor that “people like Mr O’Keeffe don’t get that they are part of the problem”.

“He had no adult convictions, now he has a drugs conviction,” Judge Harney added.

The Judge fined Mr O’Keeffe €150 and gave him three months to pay.
