
LIMERICK man Michael Tagney has been awarded the annual Tom Byrne Award, recognising excellence in academic achievement and participation with the Chartered Director Programme.
Mr Tageny, from Foynes in County Limerick, is the finance director at EMEA Google Customer Solutions with Google Ireland. Having progressed through multiple global operational and treasury roles, and most recently head of international treasury, a role he held from 2019 to 2022.
Established in memory of the late Tom Byrne, the annual award recognises excellence in academic achievement as well as individual participation in, contribution to, and engagement with the Chartered Director Programme. Tom Byrne was president of IoD Ireland from 2011 to 2013 and passed away in 2021.
Tom Byrne was originally from Kiltimagh, County Mayo and was a chartered director and chartered accountant, holding a BComm from University College Dublin (UCD).
Between 1987 and 2001, he was head of corporate finance at Davy Stockbrokers, during which time he built a strong reputation in Irish corporate finance and capital markets.
In 2001 he founded Abaris Corporate Advisers Limited, a specialist advisory firm which marked his move into entrepreneurial leadership and high-level consultancy. The late Mr Byrne held significant governance responsibilities which reflected his deep expertise in corporate governance, compliance, and strategic oversight.
At the graduation ceremony, Limerick man Michael was commended for his dedication throughout, and his outstanding results which underlined his commitment to, the programme. The award was presented to him by IoD Ireland, a not-for-profit organisation leading membership body for directors and business leaders in Ireland.
