TECHNOLOGICAL University of the Shannon scientist, Professor Neil Rowan, has been awarded a Higher Doctor of Science (DSc) by the University of Strathclyde in Scotland – marking a first for TUS.
The Higher DSc is the highest academic degree in the Irish and UK university systems, above a PhD.
It is awarded to scholars who have demonstrated a significant contribution to their field over several decades.
Professor Rowan is the first academic in TUS to achieve this award.
Fewer than 10 Higher Doctorates are awarded per year in Ireland.
Professor Rowan’s work has fundamentally advanced the fields of disease prevention, MedTech, and global food security.
