Due to popular demand, Tom Crean — Antarctic Explorer returns to the Lime Tree Theatre on Thursday March 5, bringing the extraordinary true story of one of Ireland’s great unsung heroes back to Limerick audiences.
The acclaimed solo performance stars Aidan Dooley, who delivers a gripping, witty and deeply moving portrayal of Tom Crean, the Kerry man who survived three of the most perilous expeditions in Antarctic history. Crean was one of the few explorers to serve alongside both Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton, taking part in the Discovery, Terra Nova and Endurance expeditions.
At the heart of the story is Crean’s legendary 36-mile solo trek across the ice during the Terra Nova expedition, a rescue mission later hailed by historians as one of the greatest feats of individual heroism in the entire age of exploration. For his courage, Crean was awarded the Albert Medal.
