Hopes for over 700 homes from two major developments in Castletroy

PLANNING permission for over 700 new homes is to be sought by two separate developers in and around the Castletroy area.

The first, revealed in a planning notice, is around the intention to apply to Limerick City and County Council for planning permission for 523 homes on the Monaleen Road in Castletroy.

The planning notice states that Columbia Estates Management (IE) Limited intends to apply for a 10-year permission for the large-scale residential development.

There would be a total of 523 residential units, including 214 two/three-storey residential dwellings, consisting of 10 two-bed units and 204 three-beds.

Plans also include 309 apartments consisting of 159 one-bed, 141 two-bed, and nine three-bed units to be provided within 10 apartment buildings.

A crèche on the ground floor and an outdoor play space along with bin and bicycle storage are also included among the plans.

The planning notice also mentions the provision of associated car parking at surface level via a combination of cartilage parking for dwellings and via on street parking for the creche and apartments.

A basement for apartment blocks six to nine will incorporate parking, a plant area, storage rooms and bicycle storage.

The second development, highlighted in a separate planning notice, revealed that Clonshire Construction Limited is to seek seven-year planning permission for 212 residential units at Towlertown, Ballysimon.

The proposed development comprises of 102 two and three-storey houses including eight two-bed, 60 three-bed two-storey houses, 34 four-bedroom houses.

Six three-storey apartment blocks with 100 units are also being proposed with 49 one-bed, 51 two-beds and five three-storey duplex units also on the application.

A crèche for the area is also being proposed followed by all associated site works including foul and surface drainage and water main connections to include two foul pump stations and construction of a headwall at the outfall of the proposed surface water system to the existing watercourse, bin and bicycle storage units, landscaping and boundary treatments including retaining walls at the north east corner of the site, car parking and public lighting.

The site will have two separate access junctions serving the site to the north and south from the recently constructed Towlerton Distributor Road.
