
WITH only four rounds left, Young Munster remain in contention for a play-off slot in Division 1A of the All-Ireland League. This is despite a 19-15 weekend loss at Old Belvedere.
Shane O’Leary scored a first-half try for Munsters, who trailed 7-5 at half-time. Jake O’Riordan scored the visitors’ second try and O’Leary kicked a conversion and a penalty.
In Division 1B, Garryowen defeated leaders Old Wesley 24-19 at Energia Park, but their recent good run might not be enough for them to clinch a play-off place, as they are seven points off fourth place.
Des Fitzgerald, JJ O’Neill and Daniel O’Connell scored tries for Garryowen and Lachlan Stewart kicked two conversions.
Shannon suffered a 16-10 defeat away to Ballymena in Division 2A, but still remain in third place. Cian McCann and Callum Black were the Shannon try-scorers.
Elsewhere, Old Crescent remain in relegation trouble, after their 38-27 away defeat by Galway Corinthians.
Brian Molloy scored two tries for Crescent and Joe Rickard and John Toland got one apiece. Jeff Williams kicked two conversions, and John Hurley added a penalty.
UL Bohemian boosted their play-off hopes with a 35-28 home win against second-placed Clogher Valley in Division 2B. Sean Quirke and Jordan Mills each scored two tries for Bohs and Jordan Mills got one. Cian Casey converted all five tries.
In 2C, a pair of tries from Ryan O’Donovan Ahern helped Thomond to a 15-7 away win against Belfast Harlequins.
Evan Cusack kicked a conversion and a penalty.
In Cork, Bruff lost to Dolphin (22-3).
In the Women’s All-Ireland, holders UL Bohemian made it fifteen wins from fifteen with a 47-19 home victory against near neighbours Ennis.
Clara Barrett scored three of Bohs seven tries, Éabha Nic Dhonnacha got two and Chloe Pearse and Clodagh O’Halloran had one each. Dhonnacha kicked six conversions.
