This International Women’s Day (08th March 2026), Mother Macs Public House will donate 40% of all profits from whiskey sales to Limerick Women’s Collective — reflecting the estimated 40% of women who now make up the global whiskey market.
Recent figures show that women now account for approximately 40% of whiskey drinkers in the United States and around 35% in the United Kingdom, a remarkable rise from the 1990s, when women represented just 15% of the category. The initiative reflects that evolution directly, with the 40% donation mirroring the growing proportion of women in the global whiskey market.
The campaign was inspired by Foxes Bow Whiskey’s concept of the “missing 40%”, which drew attention to women’s expanding influence in the category through a simple but resonant visual statement.
Bar manager Triona O’Connor said the shift is already evident day-to-day at Mother Mac’s. “Whiskey today is about flavour, craft, and conversation. It’s no longer defined by who you are — it’s defined by what you enjoy.”
Co-owner Michael McMahon added: “If women now represent 40% of the category, that’s something worth acknowledging — and worth celebrating. We’re proud to mark that by giving back locally.”
Funds raised will go directly to the Limerick Women’s Collective, supporting its work in advocacy, empowerment and community development across the city.
Mother Mac’s regularly hosts whiskey tastings, talks and cultural events, and the International Women’s Day initiative builds naturally on the pub’s longstanding commitment to education and inclusivity.:
