A MAN who represented himself in court said he would not be talking to probation services and told the judge: “I’d like my sentence today please.”
Martin Blunny (38), of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft from Centra on O’Connell Street in Limerick City, on dates in October and September 2026.
The Limerick District Court heard he stole groceries and soft drinks to the value of €33.
Mr Blunny also pleaded guilty to breach of the Public Order Act and Section 9 of the Firearms Act.
Judge Carol Anne Coolican was told that he was arrested for his own safety after being found intoxicated and passed out on the footpath on October 26 in possession of a sharpened blade.
In December, the accused man walked into Henry Street Garda Station and walked up to the public counter, where he was told to wait his turn but continued to interrupt the Garda on duty dealing with members of the public.
Judge Coolican was told Mr Blunny has 149 previous convictions, including for public order offences, burglary, robbery, forgery, and misuse of drugs.
The judge asked the accused if he wanted time to consult with a solicitor but he replied that he was representing himself.
Mr Blunny told Judge Coolican that he was pleading guilty to the charges and said “I would like my sentence now”.
He was sentenced to six weeks in jail for posession of the blade and one week each for the theft matters.
