Court appearance for man charged in connection with €100,000 cannabis seizure in city

A MAN is to go before Newcastle West District Court this Saturday afternoon (March 7) in connection with the Garda seizure of an estimated €100,000 worth of cannabis.

The man, aged in his 20s, was arrested this past Thursday morning (March 5).

Gardaí said that the cannabis herb seizure was the result of a search on a car in the city area.

He was arrested under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996, and Gardaí confirmed this morning that he was charged as part of the investigation.

He is to go before a special sitting of Newcastle West District Court today at 2.15pm.

The drugs were to be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for further analysis.

The seizure and arrested were carried out under Operation Tara, a nationwide anti-drugs strategy aimed at disrupting, dismantling, and prosecuting drug gangs at local, national, and international levels.
