EVAN McAuliffe of Athlacca has been named Young Person of the Year at the National Greyhound Racing Awards held at Dublin’s Shelbourne Stadium.
In 2025, the teenager trained Drumbeg Banner to capture the Irish St Leger at Limerick.
His passion for the sport began at a young age through his grandfather, Michael Carmody of Croom.
Many hours spent together schooling greyhounds and travelling to race meetings laid the foundations for what has become a deep love of the sport.
Determined to get involved himself, he eventually persuaded his parents (Fergal and Breeda) to allow him to keep two greyhound pups, a decision that proved to be the beginning of his own journey in the sport.
Today, McAuliffe has several greyhounds under his care, and his success continues to grow.
