GARDAĆ are investigating an alleged incident of a man performing a solo sex act in a busy public place on the edge of Limerick City earlier this week.
The alleged incident is understood to have occurred on the riverside walkway along the Condell Road this past Monday morning (March 9).
The outer-city area, spanning from Shannon Bridge, is a popular route for pedestrians and is frequently used by young people and families out walking, jogging, or commuting through the city.
The location is also close to a number of schools and residential areas with a large number of children.
Concerns about the incident were raised publicly on Monday by Karen Sugrue, a sociologist, psychotherapist, and lecturer at the Technological University of the Shannon.
Ms Sugrue said she witnessed the man’s alleged indecent behaviour while walking in the area.
Posting on social media, Ms Sugrue warned others about the indecent incident and urged people in the area to remain vigilant when using the riverside path.
āBeware the penis flashing masturbator,ā she wrote in a post on her X account.
She added that she had contacted GardaĆ following the alleged encounter and described the experience as deeply upsetting, adding that her day had been āruinedā after witnessing it.
In a statement to the Limerick Post, a Garda spokesperson confirmed that an investigation into the alleged indecent exposure incident is currently ongoing.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Henry Street Garda Station on 061 212 400.
