TWO outstanding young women from Limerick were presented with scouting’s highest youth award for their contributions to the community.

The Chief Scout Awards, held at the Royal Hospital in Kilmainham in Dublin, is the highest youth achievement in Scouting Ireland and represents years of dedication, leadership, and service to local communities.

Grace Golden from the 2nd/6th Limerick Scout Group was one of those so honoured.

In support of her local community, Grace volunteered weekly at a local crèche for four months. She also joined young St Vincent de Paul and organised a fundraising event which raised €3,000 for the charity.

Nóinín Feeney, a venture scout from the same group also received her Chief Scout Award for completing a Red Cross First Aid Responder (FAR) course.

Nóinín also volunteered on duty with the Red Cross providing first aid support at community and public events.

This year’s recipients include young people who have completed projects ranging from environmental initiatives and fundraising for local charities to mentoring younger Scouts and supporting community wellbeing projects.

Young people who earn the Chief Scout Award undertake challenges that test their resilience, teamwork, and ability to make a positive impact in the world around them. Each award reflects hundreds of hours of voluntary effort and personal growth.

Congratulating all recipients of this year’s awards at the ceremony, chief scout Eoin Callinan said: “Recipients of the award have demonstrated exceptional commitment through a combination of personal development, community involvement, outdoor skills and leadership projects.”
