ST MUNCHIN’S College of Limerick have captured the Munster Schools Rugby Senior Cup on five occasions, and will be looking for further glory this Wednesday (March 18).
The breakthrough came in 1968 with final victory over Rockwell College. Here, the kicking of captain Larry Moloney played a key part in the historic win.
Further success for Munchin’s came in 1982 (captain: Pat Murray), ‘02 (Donnacha Ryan), ‘04 (Fergal Walsh) and ‘06 (Gerard Slattery).
That win of ‘82 against Presentation Brothers Cork, PBC, happened at a packed Thomond Park.
In the 14-7 outcome, tries were secured by Geoff Moylan and David Dinneen, while Willie Quinlan was most accurate from the boot.
In ‘02, Munchin’s accounted for PBC (20-19) and in ‘04 for the same opposition (11-10).

In the most recent triumph, St Munchin’s squeezed past champions PBC, 7-3, on a bitterly cold St Patrick’s Day afternoon at Thomond Park.
The only try came courtesy of Keith Earls, a future 100-cap international, and the rest.
