The Cornstore Limerick hosted the preview event on Friday March 6. This private gathering offered a tantalizing glimpse into the style and philanthropy to come. The ‘Style With Purpose’ event proudly supports The Hope Foundation Ireland, who steadfastly are dedicated to transforming the lives of street-connected and slum-dwelling communities in Kolkata, India. The Hope Foundation strives to free children and impoverished families from lives of pain, abuse, poverty, and darkness, significantly improving their circumstances by providing crucial access to healthcare, nutrition, education, drug rehabilitation, and vital life skills training.
Through its powerful and continued partnership with Specsavers Ireland, improved eye care is becoming increasingly accessible to children living in Kolkata’s slums and those in hospital care. Specsavers’ commitment to this mission was recently demonstrated through a vital trip to Kolkata, where a team of Specsavers colleagues delivered essential eye care in collaboration with the Hope Hospital Eye Clinic and reached out to local communities.
This ongoing partnership has been incredibly impactful, with Specsavers raising over €130,000 this year alone, contributing to a remarkable total of €861,785 since 2017. These funds dramatically improve the lives of Kolkata’s most vulnerable.
During their recent eight-day visit, the expert Specsavers team conducted eye checks for an astonishing 3,722 patients, dispensed over 2,804 pairs of glasses, and, in more severe cases, referred patients to Hope Hospital for necessary surgery. For most of these individuals, it was their very first time seeing an optician and accessing the basic eye health care often taken for granted in Ireland.
Samiran Mallik, CEO of The Hope Hospital, highlighted the critical impact of the Specsavers team’s efforts: “Expanding access to eye care, as the Specsavers team so diligently does, is paramount. We know that 90 per cent of blindness cases are preventable if timely treatment is available, and their work directly addresses this need, transforming futures.”
