
GARDAĆ this Tuesday (March 24) made a sweep of arrests as part of a multi-agency āDay of Actionā in Newcastle West.
25 arrests were made, along with Garda raids on four homes in the county town. A vehicle was also seized, a post on the An Garda SĆochĆ”na Limerick Facebook page confirmed, for āvarious offencesā.
Over 40 GardaĆ from across Limerick teamed up for the multi-agency swoop.
The Garda statement said that āthis wasn’t just a regular patrol, we had our local community engagement teams working alongside crime investigators, immigration officers, and road policing unitsā.
Support was also provided by the armed support unit and the crime prevention unit.
According to the Garda statement, 25 people were arrested for outstanding bench warrants in Newcastle West.
āFour residential properties were searched under Misuse of Drugs legislation which resulted in a small quantity of drugs being seized,ā GardaĆ said.
During the course of the operation, following a number of multi-agency checkpoints, āone vehicle was seized for various offencesā. The nature of the offences was not made public.
āGardaĆ also conducted enquiries into persons who are believed to be in possession of controlled dog breeds, and routine inspections were carried out on licensed firearm holders,ā the Garda statement continued.
āPersonnel from Revenue and Customs, the Department of Social Protection, National Parks and Wildlife Service, the Road Safety Authority, National Transport Authority and Limerick City and County Council (Dog Warden) supported GardaĆ in the planned operation.ā
