LIMERICK City and County Council has urged continued caution across today (Wednesday) following a number of overnight incidents in the fallout of a Status Yellow wind warning in place last night.
Crews from Limerick Council and Limerick Fire and Rescue Service responded to several reports of fallen trees and hazardous conditions resulting from last night’s strong winds, the local authority said.
On the R519 Glenwilliam–Ballingarry, Limerick Fire and Rescue Service responded to a fallen tree and had the roadway cleared and reopened. However, hanging telecom wires were reported at the scene. Warning signage was put in place, the Council said.
On the L6053, a fallen tree was reported and removal by Council crews was underway this morning.
On the L1241, a tree came down late last night and was successfully cleared by crews overnight.
On the L1201 near Beagh Castle, a fallen tree was reported on the road, the local authority statement confirmed.
“Council staff will continue inspections and clean-up operations today to ensure all routes remain safe for road users,” the Council said.
Issuing a public statement advice statement, the Council said it is “urging the public – particularly motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians – to remain vigilant as additional debris or weakened trees may still pose a risk”.
“Isolated locations may have temporary traffic management or warning signage in place.
Drivers should reduce speed, expect the unexpected, and be alert for fallen branches or crews working on roads.”
“Limerick City and County Council thanks the Limerick Fire and Rescue Service, outdoor crews, and utility partners for their prompt response throughout the night.”
