A powerful two-hander exploring life, loss and the wisdom of a dying mentor comes to Limerick next month, as Lime Tree Theatre presents Tuesdays with Morrie on Wednesday April 1 at 8pm. Tickets are priced at €28.
Adapted from Mitch Albom’s phenomenally popular memoir by Jeffrey Hatcher and Albom himself, and directed by Andy Arnold, the production brings to the stage the true story of Albom’s reunion with his former college professor Morrie Schwartz, who is battling ALS — also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Sixteen years after graduation, the journalist catches his old mentor’s appearance on a television news programme and makes what begins as a simple visit, only for it to evolve into a weekly pilgrimage and an unforgettable final lesson in the meaning of life.
Leading the cast as Morrie is David Hayman, one of Britain’s most respected stage and screen actors. His screen credits include A Sense of Freedom, Trial and Retribution, Sid and Nancy, and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.
On stage, he has appeared opposite Ruth Wilson in the Donmar Warehouse production of Anna Christie, and delivered a critically celebrated turn in Cyprus Avenue, for which he was named Outstanding Performer of the Year at the Critics Awards for Theatre in Scotland. He will next be seen on screen in Joel Coen’s forthcoming Jack of Spades.
Opposite Hayman, Irish actor, writer and composer Fionn Foley takes the role of Mitch Albom. Widely known to Irish audiences from stages across the country, Foley has also built a strong screen profile through appearances in Harry Wild, The Dry, Balor Hall, and Dublin Oldschool.
Tuesdays with Morrie plays Lime Tree Theatre on Wednesday 1 April at 8pm. Tickets are €28 and are available from the Lime Tree Theatre box office.
