
ALMOST €6.5m in funding will be allocated to deliver more housing for Limerick as part of John Moran’s 2026 Mayoral Fund.
The allocation accounts for almost 60 per cent of the total fund (€14.7m), which covers 110 different measures in capital investment (€10.8m) and current expenditure (€3.2m).
Among the housing allocations includes €3.9m in funding to buy land for housing across the city and county, and €1m towards the Vienna Housing Model, a pilot project which will enable real estate developers from Limerick 2030 to explore interventions in the private market.
Over €1.4m was also allocated to progress the Mayors SMART Housing with funding for preliminary works (€69,325) and forward planning for the Patrickswell Masterplan (€40,000).
Over half a million has also been announced for a new park on Limerick’s Northside under the Northside Park Masterplan (€596,300), while €400,000 was allocated for works on the Royal Cinema on Cecil Street and the CCTV network scheme across Limerick respectively.
€350,000 was also approved under plans “Greening Georgian Limerick” to provide a “green avenue” for the area.
€200,000 will also be provided for the former tourist office at Arthur’s Quay.
Other funding allocations included €100,000 for the restoration of the O’Connell Avenue Fountain in time for the Ryder Cup, over €5,000 for a new packet park in Parnell St and a mural in Petanque Court (€10,000) in memory of Dolores O’Riordan.
Other allocations announced include: Arthur’s Quay tourist office (€200,000); Nicholas Street public realm works (€150,000); recording of Council meetings (€30,000); Market Quarter and Cruises Street match funding (€59,995); Three Bridges Walk lighting (€100,000); four-way stop pilot on Catherine St/Glentworth Street (€10,000); West Wall Walkway in Kilmallock (€25,000); street lighting in Newcastle West (€2,614); Kings Island FRS public realm upgrade (€100,000); mini street sweeper (€127,305); Accessible Limerick Mapping Programme ( €50,000); superblock system design (€50,000); variable messaging signs restoration (€50,000).
