LIMERICK man Joe Slattery has been appointed as the new CEO of the Children’s Grief Centre.

Mr Slattery, an addiction counsellor and project co-ordinator at Limerick’s Northstar Family Support Project, confirmed the news earlier this week.

“I’m honoured to share that I have accepted the role of CEO at the Children’s Grief Centre. Stepping into this position is both a privilege and a responsibility I hold with deep respect. The Centre has a long-standing reputation for providing compassionate, child‑centred support to young people and families navigating loss. To be entrusted with leading this next chapter is something I’m truly grateful for,” Mr Slattery posted on his LinkedIn page.

“My career has been shaped by the belief that every person deserves to be met with dignity, empathy, and hope. The Children’s Grief Centre embodies these values in action every day. I’m excited to work alongside a dedicated team, our Board, partners, and the wider community to strengthen and expand the impact of this vital service.”

The Children’s Grief Centre provides support for school-aged children and young people affected by loss through death, separation or divorce. The organisation offers a safe and supportive place for children, young people, and their families who are grieving, with services delivered by trained and experienced people.

Outgoing CEO Mairead O’Keeffe joined the centre in 2024 with over 25 years experience working with children and families and practised as a social worker in the areas of child protection, fostering and disability services.

The Great Limerick Run Kids Fun Run recently announced the Children’s Grief Centre as its official charity partner ahead of the big day on May 2.

Part of the wider Regeneron Great Limerick Run weekend, the Kids Fun Run encourages children and families to get active, enjoy the atmosphere of race day, and take part in a fun and inclusive event that celebrates participation, community and movement.
