THE Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau has appointed Stephen O’Connor, general manager of Limerick’s Strand Hotel, as the new chair of its board.
Stephen brings extensive experience in the hospitality sector, having worked with the MHL Hotel Collection for over 11 years, including roles at The Harbour Hotel Galway and, for the past seven years, as general manager of The Strand.
A graduate of Atlantic Technological University, he also trained in Switzerland with the InterContinental Group and has held a number of senior general management positions across Ireland.
Stephen is also the incoming president of Limerick Central Rotary and has previously served as chair of the Irish Hotels Federation Shannon Branch.
The Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau plays a key role in promoting the region as a destination for conferences, meetings, and sporting events, working in partnership with industry stakeholders across Limerick, Clare, and Tipperary.
By attracting high-calibre events to the region, the Bureau aims to deliver lasting economic impact and strengthen the Mid West’s reputation on the global stage.
Mr O’Connor said: “I am pleased to take on the role of chair of the Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau at an important time for the region. The Bureau continues to play a vital role in attracting high-value business and sports tourism, thereby supporting the wider hospitality and events sector.”
“I look forward to working with the board, our members, and stakeholders to build on this momentum and further strengthen the region’s position both nationally and internationally.”
